My MUN Experience: From Breakdown to Honourable Mention π
Let’s talk about something that isn’t JEE for a second.
Yes, I’m a so-called JEE aspirant, but there’s one thing that still gives me an adrenaline rush like no mock test ever did:
Model United Nations.
(MUNs, baby. The closest we get to playing politics without getting cancelled.)
Why I Love MUNs
If you know, you know.
MUNs are more than just fake diplomacy and formal suits.
They’re chaos, fire debates, spontaneous speeches, and last-minute crisis updates.
And the best part? They help you grow in every way possible:
-
Public speaking π’
-
Negotiation skills π€
-
Geopolitical knowledge π
-
Networking π€π€
-
And confidence? 10x boost.
I’ve only done two so far (thanks to JEE handcuffing my weekends), but each one’s been mad impactful.
So here’s the story of one MUN that started with a crash and ended with a crown.
Day 1 – The Fall π₯
This was at a MUN hosted by my old school.
They’re known for hosting banger conferences — like committees with real agendas, insane decor, actual props, and flawless coordination.
I chose AIPPM — the All India Political Parties Meet.
Agenda? 10 Years of NDA vs UPA.
Intense.π₯
I got the portfolio of Nitin Gadkari.
Pulled an all-nighter researching. Read his policies, speeches, statements — all prepped.
But then…
My first speech.
A certified disaster.
Couldn’t speak clearly.
Paused more than a buffering YouTube video.
Heart thumping, words mumbling, hands cold.
Somehow managed to finish it. But I felt done for the day. Crashed mentally.
Lunch Break That Fixed Me
I sat in a corner, frustrated.
But then I had a casual chat with one of the chairs.
Something about that talk clicked.
It wasn't about being the best.
It was about learning, adapting, trying again.
Post-lunch, I gathered whatever confidence I had left and jumped back in.
Said a few points. Asked a few solid questions. Wasn’t flawless, but miles better.
That night, I did both — JEE prep + more MUN research.
And trust me, the second day was about to go down differently.
Day 2 – The Rise π§ π₯
Walked into the committee room not with fear but fire.
" I knew it was time to Turn The Tables"
First speech?
Delivered like a pro.
Chits? Sent. And dangerous.
Opposition? On edge.
We reached the final session: Chorus Mode —
No decorum. Just fire. Shout your points, drop your arguments, and own the room.
And I did. I emerged to be the one to put forward the most points in the committee.
From barely whispering to now being the loudest voice in the room, I went full beast mode.
Point after point. Counter after counter.
By the end, even the chairs noticed.
The Unexpected Ending π«
Once the session ended, we signed the resolution paperwork and packed up.
I wasn’t hoping for an award.
I just wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t the nervous wreck I was on Day 1.
But then... during the award distribution (our committee was last to be announced, of course)...
They called my name.
Honourable Mention.
Bro. I was not okay.
It was unexpected. It was unreal. And it was enough.
The hard work, the panic, the bounce-back — everything paid off.
Went home, told my parents.
And that smile they had?
That was the real win of the day.
✨ Conclusion: You Grow When You Fall… and Then Stand Back Up
MUNs taught me something no textbook ever will:
It’s not about starting strong.
It’s about showing up the next day stronger.
From shaking hands to mic drops.
From "I can’t do this" to “I just did that.”
You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you push through the mess.
So yeah, if you’re on the fence about joining a MUN…
Join it. Stutter. Flop. Learn. Then dominate.
π«Ά RAK (Random Act of Kindness) of the Day:
Helped an old lady climb up the steps.
Her smile? Made my entire day.
